Ship Skis or a Snowboard from a Facebook Marketplace Sale

By Ship4Snow ·

Facebook Marketplace is a place to agree on the gear and the price. It is not the shipment. If the buyer is not meeting you, quote the two ZIPs, pack what you listed, and hand the bag to the carrier only after you have been paid. Put the buyer’s name and street on the label, then send the tracking number in the Marketplace thread.

What Marketplace shipping does not do for a ski bag

A lot of ski and snowboard listings are local pickup. You meet, you look at the edges, you pay, you leave. Shipping is the other sale: the buyer is in another city and the bag has to get there.

Facebook sometimes offers a prepaid label when a listing is eligible for checkout. Those rules change. On October 29, 2026 the public Marketplace help pages did not return a size or weight chart we could cite, so this page does not invent a pound limit or a label fee. A ski or snowboard bag is long. Price that bag as its own shipment instead of hoping a checkout label will accept it.

If the listing says pickup only, do not promise a ship date in the thread until you have a quote. A buyer who asks "can you ship?" is asking for a number, not a guess.

Decide who pays before you accept

Three deals stay clean. The buyer pays the quoted shipping on top of the gear price. Or you quote one typical route first and fold that number into the listing, and you say which ZIP pair it covers. Or you meet locally and nobody ships. Do not split the difference in the chat with a round number you have not priced.

The snowboard box is listed at $20. That product page says shipping and insurance costs are separate, and the box is not returnable. Twenty dollars is the carton, not the trip to the buyer. Protection is optional. Its limit shows on the quote before you pay. There is no single cap to paste into a Marketplace message.

Ship after you have been paid

Hand the bag over after the money is in your account, not after a message that says it is on the way. If you are paid through a payment app, wait until that app treats the payment as complete. Shipping first, on a promise, is how sellers lose both the skis and the sale.

Photograph the gear, the packed bag, and the label before drop-off. Keep those photos with the order number. If the buyer says the skis that arrived are not the skis in the listing, you want the pictures from the day it left.

Our trip FAQ says to ship five to ten business days before a ski vacation and to arrive one business day early. A sale is not a vacation. Ship when you have been paid, and tell the buyer the delivery date on the quote. That date is the one you can stand behind.

The address on the label

Use the buyer’s name and a street address they send you. "Facebook Marketplace" is not an address, and neither is their profile name if it is not the name on the door. Ask them to confirm the ZIP before you pay for the label. This storefront quotes US door-to-door shipping today.

A hotel, a vacation rental, or a hold-for-pickup counter is a different problem. Those desks charge fees and they cap how early a box can arrive. If the buyer is sending the bag to lodging, read our Vail shipping guide for how that goes wrong, then call the property. For an ordinary sale, a home address or a carrier counter the buyer has already asked to use is simpler.

You are shipping one way, to the buyer. The round-trip option on the quote form is for getting your own gear home after a trip. Do not buy a return label for a sale unless the buyer has paid you to send something back.

Pack the gear you listed

Ship the skis, the snowboard, or the ski and boot bag you described. Tape loose parts, pad the bindings, and keep poles in the bag only when they fit. You can use the bag you already own. The quote assumes a standard bag unless you enter the packed size and weight.

The carton we sell is a Snowboard Box. The product page says it holds one snowboard with bindings, opens on the ends, uses full-overlap flaps, and is 275#/ECT-44 kraft. It ships flat and it is made in the USA. Dimensions are not published, and the page does not say the carton holds skis. Do not put a pair of skis in it and hope. Do not add a second pair that was not in the listing and call it the same shipment.

Quote it, drop it off, send the tracking

Enter the ZIP you are shipping from and the buyer’s ZIP. Drop-off usually costs less than a scheduled pickup. The shipping options page shows the difference before you pay. Pickup is there if you do not want to drive to a carrier.

SmartTrack GPS is listed at $0, and the homepage says every shipment includes it. The buyer is not limited to a carrier scan. Paste the tracking link into the Marketplace conversation the day you drop the bag off. That is the message that ends "did you ship it yet?"

If the gear is lost or damaged

Add protection when you book if the sale price is more than you are willing to lose. The limit is on the quote. File a claim within 7 days of scheduled delivery. You need the order number, tracking number, proof of value, photos of the bag and the gear, and a repair or replacement estimate. The price in the Marketplace thread is useful proof of value. Keep the listing screenshots.

If the buyer paid through Facebook checkout, Facebook may have its own purchase protection. That program is theirs. We are not restating its deadlines or its dollar cap, because a current policy page did not come back on October 29, 2026. Read it in the checkout you actually used. A Ship4Snow claim and a Facebook case are not the same form.

Local pickup is still the simple sale

If you can meet, meet. You can see a core shot, a cracked edge, or a boot that does not match the photo. Shipping does not fix a listing that hid the damage, and it does not make a too-good price safer. Use this guide when the buyer is actually in another city and you both still want the sale.

FAQ

Can I ship skis I sold on Facebook Marketplace?

Yes, when the buyer is not picking them up. Quote the two ZIPs, pack what you listed, and ship after you have been paid. Put the buyer’s name and street on the label and send the tracking number in the Marketplace thread.

Should I use Facebook’s prepaid shipping label?

Only if checkout offers one and you have checked that it accepts your packed size and weight. On October 29, 2026 Facebook’s public help pages did not return a size chart we could cite, so this page does not invent a limit. A ski or snowboard bag is long. Price it with a quote instead of assuming a checkout label will take it.

Who pays for shipping on a Marketplace ski sale?

Whoever you agreed would pay, before you accept. Either the buyer pays the quote on top of the gear price, or you already folded a quoted route into the listing and you said which ZIPs that covers. The $20 snowboard box is the carton. Shipping and insurance are separate.

When do I drop off the bag?

After payment is complete, not when a message says it is coming. Photograph the gear, the packed bag, and the label. Tell the buyer the delivery date on the quote. The five-to-ten-business-day rule is for a ski trip, not for a sale.

What if the buyer wants the skis sent to a hotel?

Call the hotel first. Many charge a receiving fee and will not hold a box for long. "Facebook Marketplace" is not an address. For a normal sale, use the buyer’s home or a carrier counter they have already arranged.

What if the skis arrive damaged?

Protection is optional and the limit is on the quote. File a claim within 7 days of scheduled delivery with the order number, tracking number, proof of value, photos, and a repair or replacement estimate. The Marketplace sale price helps show value. Facebook’s own purchase protection, if checkout was used, is a separate case.
